Wild Fire Recovery The wild fires that struck San Diego County this past October were some of the most devastating in our nation's history. With over 2000 homes lost and many others damaged individuals and families are struggling to recover. Patti is stepping forward to use the power of stories to help in the healing. On Saturday, November 22nd, she participated in the first ever Tellebration concert in Julian, whose historic town center was saved by the firefighters. This was a concert that became a fundraising event for the fund being used to help those devastated by the fire. |

In the works is a project where Patti will join other storytellers in gathering some of the stories of those who barely escaped with their lives, sorted through the ashes, and now are rebuilding both the physical and emotional parts of their lives.

Operation Supporting Stories While our troops were engaged in the fighting of Operation Iraqi Freedom their families were left behind to carry on and to worry about the safety of their loved ones. Patti was involved with Operation Supporting Stories, the telling of stories to the families of Marines away in combat. In this project, Patti and James, as The Patchwork Players joined with other storytellers and performers in bringing support and stories to these families dealing with a very difficult and uncertain situation. Nearly 20% of the soldiers who were sent to Iraq came from the Camp Pendleton Base in North San Diego County. |
Story Theatre in Action The Patchwork Players have a new writing support program entitled The Patchwork Players Bring Young Writer's Work to Life. Individual classrooms, specific grades, or entire schools use the opportunity to have writing contests for the best fictional short stories. Once the very best have been chosen, they are sent to The Patchwork Players who read the stories and then create a short improvisational play or story based on the writing. These stories are then performed for the students and their families in one or more assemblies. The program supports CA Language Arts Curriculum Standards for any grade. |

Recently, The Patchwork Players presented student written work at Murrieta Elementary School. The quality of the student writing was stunning and everyone enjoyed the program.
